Dysart Defenders to hold press conference Thursday at 2 in Columbus

Dysart Defenders will hold a press conference Thursday at 2 p.m. in the ground floor lobby of the Ohio Division of Mineral Resources headquarters at 1855 Fountain Square Court Building H off Morse Road in the ODNR building complex (their number is 614-265-6633 if you need directions)..

The group will then present hundreds of petition signatures to the ODMR before the July 20 comment deadline opposing Ohio Valley Coal Company’s D-0360-12 permit that would undermine every acre of Dysart Woods.

Speakers include Northwest Ohio Dysart Defenders coordinator Mark Spring and Dysart Defenders Coordinator Chad Kister, with others likely.

This is by far the worst permit we have seen for Dysart Woods.  This permit would allow room and pillar and longwall mining directly underneath Dysart Woods.

Dysart Woods is among the last .004 percent of remaining ancient forest in Ohio. It is also among the most endangered ecosystem in the world according to the U.S. Department of Interior.
